The cycle track at Ballerup Superarena transforms a conventional lawn into a vibrant urban landscape where movement, biodiversity, and soil management are closely integrated. The project reimagines the cycle track as a landscape element that supports everyday activity while strengthening the site’s ecological value.
A varied terrain shaped by organic forms and strategically placed planting integrates the cycle track seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. The route accommodates both cyclists and pedestrians, creating a balanced transition between activity and nature. Planting and landform define spatial sequences that offer moments for pause, outlook, and informal use along the way.
The project is based on a two-phase sowing strategy that ensures a gradual and resilient development of vegetation. An initial layer of annual species activates soil microbiology, stabilizes the surface, and establishes early green cover. This is followed by the introduction of a perennial plant mix that supports long-term biodiversity and forms a robust, self-sustaining ecosystem. Developed in collaboration with Spor Hvor Du Bor, the project was implemented with a strong focus on long-term performance, ecological quality, and maintenance.
