The masterplan for Hohenwestedt’s town center transforms the central square, Am Markt, into a vibrant and future-oriented civic space. By prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists and relocating traffic and parking to the rear, the project creates a safe, accessible, and identity-defining public realm. Clear sightlines and well-connected pathways tie the square seamlessly to its surroundings, establishing a coherent and inclusive town center that supports everyday life, social interaction, and long-term sustainability.
A defining feature of the project is the Green Belt — a continuous landscape connection linking the church, train station, and commercial areas through an integrated network of paths. Ecologically valuable planting strengthens biodiversity while enhancing the spatial and environmental quality of the town center. New buildings along key edges complement the existing urban fabric, combining active ground floors with flexible residential, office, and community uses above.

Krydsfelt contributed landscape architectural strategies that integrate urban life, mobility, and ecology into a cohesive whole. Developed in close collaboration with Urban Agency, the project demonstrates how landscape and architecture together can shape a resilient, multifunctional town center that supports both local identity and everyday use.
